We buy from a wide range of publishers... and we’re very careful about what we choose.
Fiction, non-fiction, reading scheme books, reluctant readers, ‘boy friendly’ books... we have books in a huge range of styles on the shelves and a wide knowledge of what else is available.
Ordering through us is easy – just call in, pick up the phone or e-mail us. A great way of seeing what’s new is to come in to Simply Books and pick straight off the shelves. (Details of discounts on request.)
Staff meetings in the shop...
What better way for a whole staff group to share our excitement about books than for us to host a meeting in the shop. Enjoy afternoon tea and then we’ll help you select books.
Are a brilliant way of topping up a class or school library. We’ll send you a selection of new and exciting books - all ‘gift wrapped’ in bright paper and bows. Opening the parcels with the children becomes an event in itself and creates a buzz about the books!
We can put together an eclectic and creative collection of books to match teachers’ topics... we’re organised and have lots of imagination!
We pride ourselves on being able to find you rich, quality texts and have lots of ideas of how to use them.
Guided reading/class read...
We can suggest ‘real’ books that tie in with the curriculum and work well as guided reading sets, or class reads. We can also put together collections of banded books across both fiction and non-fiction.
We can supply gift vouchers to any value. Great as school prizes, incentives or rewards. They all come with a treat in the cafe which makes a visit to the shop to spend the voucher an occasion in itself!
Planning with you the best way (within whatever budget!) to create a learning environment which celebrates the importance of books within your school.
Sue draws on over twenty years experience in teaching (including senior roles within schools and LA services) and more than ten as a bookseller.
It’s a brilliant combination and places her in a unique position. Working with a range of schools – from those keen to make improvements through to schools which are, or are aiming to be, outstanding.
The best place to buy and love books is a ‘flesh and blood’ bookshop.
We’re passionate about our bookshop and the books we sell – we love the ‘people’ part of bookselling: sharing our knowledge about the books that inspire us, showing you unusual books or making surprising connections between what we have on the shelf and what you want to offer in the classroom.
“Sue questions, challenges, inspires!”

“Simply the best guidance for refurbishing our school library”
Moss Hey Primary School, Stockport
Sue’s consultancy work in schools has various strands to it including:
Advice and planning days in school...
Meeting with teachers to discuss themes/literacy plans and come up with fresh ideas including advice on rich quality texts which support a creative curriculum approach.
Get in touch for more info.
And as if that wasn’t enough, here are some of the ‘add-ons’ we offer...
The bookshop tour...
Some of our very best moments in the shop are with children who come on our ‘bookshop tour’. We can tailor a ‘tour’ to a focus of your choosing but it’s likely to involve an introduction to the shop, Q & A about what we do here and selecting books off the shelves. Topped off with hot chocolate and homemade brownies round the big table upstairs!
Our Writing and Illustration Academies are an opportunity for children to work for half a day with a visiting ‘writer/illustrator in residence’. We limit the academies to a maximum of 10 to ensure a quality experience (available on a ‘bespoke’ basis to groups from a single school).
One of the most exciting (and memorable) experiences in school for children is to meet an author/illustrator. For schools with whom we work the author visits that we arrange are the ‘icing on the cake’.
Simply Books theatre bash...
An event when we invite schools to bring groups of children to meet a top author – with an emphasis on learning, enjoyment and entertainment.

We offer a whole host of services and experiences which schools can sign up for – you can dip in as much or as little as you wish. Or... if you have a germ of an idea about something you’d like to try in your school get in touch - you never know where it might lead!
